Google Scholar

Use Google Scholar instead of Google! It indexes core society and commercial journals, sci-tech reports, and some academic websites.

In Google Scholar, link to UF's subscribed journals through Findit@UF/SFX. Click on "Scholar Preferences" and, in the Library Links area, type University of Florida and select "University of Florida (Full Text via SFX@UF)". If you are on campus or using the VPN or library proxy you will get links from Scholar into the full text of library-subscribed journals. This preference is set for the browser software on that computer.

Professional societies and associations

See other Subject Guides for specific associations. General associations that serve all disciplines of engineering include:

  • ASEE, the American Society for Engineering Education, focuses on recruitment and education. Check out (under "Publications") their profiles of engineering colleges!
  • NIST, the National Institute of Standards and Technology, provides information about standards programs and projects.

Collective websites

  • The best collective pages on the Web for academic research topics are usually in the World-Wide Web Virtual Library. Follow the Engineering path to pages that link to associations, research sites, searchable databases, conference information, discussion lists, and more.
  • Intute Engineering Gateway links to "high quality resources on the Internet. Each resource has been evaluated and categorised by subject specialists based at UK universities."
