Journal costs

How much does a journal cost?  What is its cost-effectiveness?

  • Journal Cost-Effectiveness

"Use this search engine to find internationally-published journals and rank them by price per article or citation. "

Measuring journal value

How expensive is a journal?  What is a journal's value?  Here are some tools to determine cost and value of your favorite (or not so favorite) journals.

  • JCR Web (Journal Citation Reports)

The original impact factor, from ISI (Web of Science). Measures the frequency with which a typical article from a journal is cited in other journals. Limited to Web of Science journals and last 2 years. Access restricted to UF faculty/staff/students.
  • Eigenfactor

Uses the entire network, not just local citations, to evaluate journals. Also calculates Article Influence(tm) and cost-effectiveness. Based on 5 years of data (from Web of Science) but different algortihms; free.
  • H-index (Hirsch)

This measure of productivity and impact can be determined from any set of publications. Available in the Web of Science, or use a tool such as Publish or Perish (http://www.harzing.com/pop.htm) for Google Scholar items.
